Tom enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1976, received training in electronics, and earned a BSEE degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1980. After serving as an electrical engineer in the Air Force in South Korea and Germany, Tom earned an MSEE degree from UT Austin in 1988.

From 1989 through 1991 Tom led a five-member Air Force team that specialized in developing and fielding advanced electronic data acquisition systems.  In 1991 he became the lead engineer of a program to develop producible and affordable computer systems for space applications via contracts with Honeywell and IBM.

After his retirement from the Air Force in 1994, Tom began working as a Technical Advisor for the Austin office of Conley, Rose & Tayon, a law firm specializing in intellectual property protection. In August of 1998 he passed the Patent Bar Exam and became a Patent Agent. After a move to the Fort Worth area in 2002, Tom founded Belvin Patent Services, Inc. (BPSI), a company that offers his patent drafting and prosecution services to elite law firms. BPSI is currently retained by Krueger Iselin LLP so that we are able to offer Tom's services to our clients.
