Managing Partner

Louis attended The University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as a National Merit Scholar. Though he majored in engineering physics, Louis added advanced coursework in electrical and chemical engineering to the core physics and math coursework. Louis then attended The University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, taking graduate coursework in nuclear and environmental engineering, engineering sciences, physics, and chemistry. Louis focused on measuring radiation safety for his master’s degree and analyzing radiation effects for his doctoral degree. More specifically, his master’s degree research focused on mathematical modeling of complex non-linear magnetic resonance data, and his doctoral research focused on radiation effects on organic substances using nitrogen-14 nuclear quadrupole resonance using the modeling techniques from his master’s work.

The U.S. Department of Energy funded Louis’ graduate work through an ORISE Fellowship in Health Physics. To earn additional money, Louis taught at Santa Fe Community College and provided technical support to the Florida Radon Research Program in their development efforts on radon-resistant building codes for the state of Florida. After graduation, Louis taught as an Assistant Professor of Physics in support of the undergraduate health physics program at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. After Dan recommended Louis, Louis also began working in the Austin office of Conley Rose in 1996.

In 1999, Louis moved to Houston and began drafting and prosecuting patent applications at Williams, Morgan & Amerson full time until 2002, becoming a contract patent agent thereafter until his graduation from The University of Houston Law Center in 2004. During law school Louis was an Associate Editor of the Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy, a member of the Order of the Barons honor society, and an intern in the chambers of the Honorable Lee H. Rosenthal, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Texas. After law school, Louis worked as a patent litigation associate for over two years in the Houston office of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. Louis is a Member of the Institute of Physics (UK) and is a Chartered Physicist. Louis is also a member of the IEEE, IEEE NPSS, IEEE PCS, HPS, ABA, the Texas Bar, and is registered with the USPTO.

With his doctoral degree in Nuclear Engineering Sciences, Louis is able to perform in even the most complex areas of technology. He has earned the respect and loyalty of clients in many fields including computer architecture, software engineering and network switching. Louis is highly skilled in patent prosecution, opinion work and litigation support. Louis also secures trademark and copyright protection, and performs due-diligence and freedom-to-operate analyses.
